About Us

Our Mission: Welcoming sojourners home to the joy of following Jesus together.

Our Story

In 1991, forty families responded in faith to God’s call for Houston Chinese Church (HCC) to follow the visionary leadership of Pastor Calvin Wong and plant a new church on the west side of Houston called West Houston Chinese Church (WHCC).

Over the next 30 years, under the leadership of Pastor David Hsu, God has blessed WHCC to be a growing church that has continued the legacy of planting churches, including planting Katy Christian Community Church, Access Church, and New Hope Christian Church in the Woodlands as well as engaging with strategic partnerships to plant churches across the city and abroad.

As a Chinese heritage church, God has grown and matured “W” over the years in continuing to reach those whose heart language is Chinese, while also welcoming more and more sojourners of all ethnicities to the joy of following Jesus together. As a reflection of this identity maturation, the church leadership with membership support updated W’s name to West Houston Christian Church in late 2023. God’s story of redemption, blessing, and life change continues to unfold and we believe our best days are ahead.

OUR MARKS

As sojourners on a life journey, we find our home in Jesus and welcome others home to him by growing, deepening, and living out the following four roles with the power of the Holy Spirit. Each role represents a defining mark or characteristic of our discipleship with Jesus and contains a set of questions for you to ask yourself as an invitation for the Spirit to reveal the areas He is inviting you to a deeper relationship with Him.

  • OUR BELIEFS

Our church firmly holds the following doctrines as fundamental truths:
    • One God, Creator of the universe, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
    • Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, God and Man in one person, born of the Virgin Mary, the Word incarnate. He died on the cross to atone for the sins of man. He resurrected and ascended to be the mediator between God and man.
    • The Holy Spirit is the Comforter to believers. He convicts people of sin, brings repentance, indwells in believers forever, leads people into truth, and sanctifies the believer.
    • The 66 books of the Bible are the Word of God. They are inspired, inerrant, authoritative, and the sole standard for Christian doctrine and living.
    • God created man in His image. Man has fallen into depravity because of sin. Man can only be saved from his sin and enter the kingdom of God through faith in Christ.
    • Marriage is instituted by God from the creation of humanity as the life-long union of one man with one woman for the blessing of people and the glory of God.
    • The Church is the body of Christ and consists of all born-again Christians. Christ is the Head of His Church, the household of God.
    • Jesus Christ will return to establish His eternal kingdom. All people will rise and be judged: the believers into eternal life and the nonbelievers into eternal damnation.
