COVID-19 Recovery Update: Stage Yellow, Phase 2

Dear W family,

With summer approaching and our annual Unity Sunday service around the corner, there are signs of progress everywhere as we slowly make our way out of this pandemic: the availability of vaccines for adolescents, the downward trends of COVID-19 in the Houston area, and the CDC’s latest guidance for vaccinated people.

In keeping in step with the latest guidance and data trends, we will moving into our next phase earlier than anticipated. Starting Friday, 5/28, we will move into Phase 2 of our Yellow Stage. What this means is:

  • Increasing our room capacity to 66%; and,
  • Reducing social distancing from 6 feet to 3 feet indoors.

Many of you may be wondering how CDC’s latest guidance impacts our church’s COVID protocols as we welcome more people back to services. While more and more businesses begin to drop their masks requirements for vaccinated people, we recognize and understand the desire to worship and to fellowship with one another without masks. However, because there are still many in our community who are not able to get the vaccine at this time (for example, our children under 12 years old), we are asking those returning to church to continue wearing masks for the time being as we continue to encourage more and more of our children, youth, and adults to return to worship.

It has been a joy and a blessing to see many of you return to in-person services! After Unity Sunday, we will be moving into our summer schedule where most of our services will return to Sunday. We pray and hope that as we return to Sunday worship, we will begin to see more and more of you return. For more details on that schedule, please visit our website.

One last update: as we welcome each other back to service this summer, please continue to pray for the restoration of our sanctuary and gym that was affected by our burst water main this January – since we will be starting construction soon, our services will be temporarily held in the chapel so please pray for a speedy completion of this project.

If you have any questions regarding this latest update, please email: covid@whcchome.org. Thank you for your continual prayers and support of W – let’s continue to welcome sojourners home to the joy of following Jesus together!

Your Brother in Christ,
Pastor Nathan
